A penny for your thoughts

For her birthday from her grandmother, Teah got 10 dollars in cash. We decided that this would be a good time to teach Teah about money. So I sat down with her and we went over giving one dollar for tithing. Then we decided to save 5 dollars and that we would go to the dollar store where she would pick out four things to by with the other four dollars. I had an extra wallet, so I had her put her four dollars in it and we went to the dollar store.

She made some good choices - picking out a little bug home (which we have since put dirt, plants and bugs in), a big shovel, a big rake, and a great big bubble wand. We have had lots of fun with them, and I keep meaning to take some pictures, eventually.

But back to the story. So we get up there to purchase them and she proudly give the lady one of her dollars. I explained to her that she was buying four things so she need to give the lady all four of the dollars. This lead to absolute break down in the dollar store. She did not want to give the lady all of her money. I should have anticipated this and put all of the money in the wallet, so she would still have some left. Luckily I had 4 dollars in my wallet, so I explained that they were hers (and that there was one more at home) so she still had some money left. This appeased her a little bit we were atleast able to exit the store.

After that we were going to albertsons and I asked Teah if she wanted to take her wallet in or leave it in the car. She responded, "Leave it in the car. I don't want to give any more of my money!" I guess she is a saver at heart.

When we got home we made a bank for her to keep all her money in to save.

That was cute. Seriously, that's great she wanted to save it. And we all cracked up at her ballet!

I like both stories. It sounds like you may have found some leverage with your little fire cracker.

You are really great at taking advantage of those little teaching moments that come along each day. Loved the stories, and the results!
