This weekend we visited the Great Dane Rescue Society, which specializes in rescuing large breed dogs. Because Fiona was a bullmastiff mix and we enjoyed her temperament so much, we were interested in providing a home for another bullmastiff. There were a couple up for adoption through the Great Dane Rescue Society and we decided to go meet them. Originally we were thinking we were going to adopt one the looked a lot like Fiona, named Marilyn, however after seeing and meeting the pretty brindle bullmastiff Beatty (pronounced Badey), she won us over and ended up coming home with us. She is a bit hesitent when first meeting people, but a little pat on and a hello and she is ready to try and sit in your lap and lick your face.
Originally we were going to keep her name. Her original owners had called her baby and when they got rid of her and the Great Dane Rescue Society took her in they called her Beatty as a slight variation of the same name. However I realized that as I frequently tell Marama to come here baby, having her named Beatty would be a bit confusing for the both of them. Consequently we renamed her Lena (rhymes with "Tina," Teah's idea), although we did consider Tigress.
As a full bullmastiff, she is quite a big girl even though she is still a puppy at only 8 months and will actually continue to grow. She currently should be at or within an inch or two of her full height, the majority of her remaining growth being a broadening through the head and chest and increased muscular development. She is our gentle giant and we are happy to have her in our home.

Marama looks so content with her new puppy, or should I say horse.
