This past week the science co-op it was someone elses turn to do the science co-op. This week they learned about digestion to go along with the zoo (since all animals have to eat, including us). The learned about and colored a picture that showed the digestive system in the body.
To show how gastric juices break down food, they mixed vinegar with vanilla wafers and squashed them till they disintegrated into mush.

Then they unravelled a roll of toilet paper to show how long the small intestines are in the body

Finally the "gastric juice" mush was squeeze through a nylon to show the kids how the nutrients and juices are taken out through the intestinal walls leaving the remaining waste behing (yes poop).

It was a great lesson filled with wonderful demonstrations to help the kids learn about their digestive systems.
And then on Friday it was onto the zoo. The kids had a great time touring the zoo together.

looks like great fun.
It appears Xander is definitely chosen to be left-handed and Marima is going to get a neck ache from holding up those large flowers :-) love all the pictures
Very cool. Looks like a lot of fun learning.
