I don't know if you all knew, but this past week was fire safety week. So for the Tuesday coop the kids learned all about fire safety, each family went over their exit plans and where they would meet in case of a fire, hear a fire alarm and practice crawling out as if there was a fire. They also went over dialing 911, stopping, dropping and rolling and how fire needs oxygen and how you can smother a fire. Unfortunately I forgot my camera so I did not get any pictures.
On Friday we took a trip to a fire station (my camera died for this one, but my friend was nice enough to get some pictures for you). We went to the oldest station on Fort Bliss which is over 100 years old (it was built in 1906).
The kids got to see where the firemen live, eat and sleep while they are on duty.
They also got to see a firemen dress in his full gear and even put on his breathing apparatus. Apparently they always like to do that when they have kids come through because it is not uncommon for children to hide from firemen who are trying to get everyone out because they can seem scary in their full gear. Afterward the fireman let all the kids try on his helmet so they could see how heavy it was.
They showed them inside there fire truck, as well as different tools they use for fighting fires or responding to EMT calls.

After we were all done we went back to one of our friends homes and made the firemen a thank you card and cookies for taking the time to take the kids around the fire station.

That was really nice to do a thank you for the firemen.
Fun fieldtrip. Will Marama sleep when you are out and about?
